Identification of Abandoned Logging Roads in Point Reyes National Seashore

چکیده
Temporary roads are often placed in mountainous regions for logging purposes but then never decommissioned and removed. These abandoned forest have unwanted environmental consequences. They can lead to altered hydrological regimes, excess erosion, mass wasting events. events affect sediment budgets streams, with negative consequences anadromous fish populations. Maps of these frequently non-existent; therefore, methods need be created identify locate decommissioning. Abandoned the Point Reyes National Seashore California, an area partially under heavy canopy, were mapped using object-based image processing concert machine learning. High-resolution Q1 LiDAR point clouds from 2019 used create a bare earth model region, which slope was derived. This subjected segmentation algorithms isolate differing slopes. Regions slopes convolutional neural network (CNN), maximum likelihood classifier delineate historic road network. The accuracy assessment conducted aerial photos state region post-logging, along ground surveys verify presence areas question. method successfully able networks precision 0.991 0.992. It also found that CNN highest disturbance gradient. methodology is valuable tool decision makers who high order mitigate adverse effects.

Post-Fire Vegetation Response in the Bishop Pine Forest at Point Reyes National Seashore
The eff ect of the 1995 fi re on the regeneration, composition and cover of the Bishop Pine (Pinus muricata) forest at Point Reyes National Seashore is examined. The human-caused fi re burned over 12,000 acres in and around the National Seashore engulfi ng most of the bishop pine forest along Inverness Ridge, where fi re intensity was the greatest. Bishop pine is a closed-cone pine that typical...
متن کاملSalamander abundance along road edges and within abandoned logging roads in Appalachian forests.
Roads may be one of the most common disturbances in otherwise continuous forested habitat in the southern Appalachian Mountains. Despite their obvious presence on the landscape, there is limited data on the ecological effects along a road edge or the size of the "road-effect zone." We sampled salamanders at current and abandoned road sites within the Nantahala National Forest, North Carolina (U...
متن کاملValuing Beach Closures on the Padre Island National Seashore
In this paper we estimate the economic loss of hypothetical beach closures on the Padre Island National Seashore on the Gulf Coast of Texas. We use a travel cost random utility maximization (RUM) model with data from a random phone survey of Texas residents completed in 2001. We simulate realistic closures that may occur in event of an oil spill or other disruption. For comparison we valued the...
متن کاملDirectX 11 Reyes Rendering
We map reyes-rendering to the GPU by leveraging new features of modern GPUs exposed by the Microsoft DirectX11 API. That is, we show how to accelerate reyes-quality rendering for realistic real-time graphics. In detail, we discuss the implementation of the split-and-dice phase via the Geometry Shader, including bounds on displacement mapping; micropolygon rendering without standard rasterizatio...
